Tropical Storm Andrea has formed in the Atlantic Ocean, the first named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season.
However, the storm poses no threat to the Caribbean or any landmass.
According to the National Hurricane Center, as of 11:00 am AST on June 24, Andrea was located at latitude 36.6 North, longitude 48.9 West, approximately 1,205 miles west of the Azores.
The storm is moving toward the east-northeast at 17 mph and is expected to continue this motion for the next day or so.
Andrea currently has maximum sustained winds of 40 mph with higher gusts. The National Hurricane Center reports that little change in strength is expected today, but weakening should begin tonight. The storm is forecast to dissipate by Wednesday night.
Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles from the centre of the storm. Andrea’s minimum central pressure is 1,014 millibars or 29.95 inches.
There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect for any areas, as the storm remains well out at sea and away from populated regions.
