A Trinidadian farmer found with a gun and lead tip ammunition has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison.

Sheldon Sambury received a sentence of two years and six months for firearm possession and one year for ammunition possession, with both terms to be served simultaneously.

He was sentenced by Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel.

The charges stemmed from a June 8 police search of Sambury’s residence. During the authorized search, officers discovered illegal items concealed in a drawer within the home. 

The contraband included a Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum revolver and eight lead tip hollow point bullets.

The court was told that lead tip ammunition poses particular health risks due to its potential to cause lead poisoning, making such rounds especially dangerous.
