A wavy cold front is advancing across the Czech Republic this Friday, creating a stark contrast in weather conditions throughout the country. Western regions are bracing for rain and cooler temperatures, while the eastern parts will continue to enjoy sunny skies and summer-like warmth. Weather models still disagree on exactly where the heaviest rainfall will occur.
The Czech weather landscape will be split into two distinct halves, reminiscent of Tuesday’s conditions. Moravia and Silesia in the east will bask in sunny summer weather with temperatures exceeding 25°C, while Bohemia and western Moravia will struggle to reach 20°C. The temperature difference between east and west could exceed 10°C at times.
Rainfall patterns are expected to follow a predictable path, with precipitation moving from the southwest during the afternoon and gradually traversing the country in a northeasterly direction through the evening and night. The heaviest rainfall is anticipated in a band stretching from southern Bohemia to northeastern Bohemia, potentially producing local accumulations of several dozen millimeters.
Weather models remain in disagreement about rainfall amounts, particularly for Moravia and Silesia where precipitation will arrive later in the evening. The Aladin model predicts minimal rainfall for these areas, while other models (ECMWF, ICON) forecast significantly more precipitation. Potential thunderstorms in the northern part of the eastern half of the country could play a crucial role in determining local rainfall totals.
Looking ahead to the weekend, Saturday will bring calmer conditions as a high-pressure system gradually extends into Central Europe, initiating a warming trend. By early next week, summer-like weather will return, with temperatures potentially reaching 30°C, especially in Moravia.
