Prague Independent Film Festival Returns This September

The Prague Independent Film Festival (PIFF) will return this September, bringing international filmmakers and audiences together for three days of screenings, discussions, and presentations.

Founded in 2016, the festival highlights independent productions from around the world with a focus on original storytelling and diverse perspectives.

The program begins on 19 September at Kino Lucerna with a screenplay presentation of Come Monday (17:00), introduced by American filmmaker Graham Streeter, whose works include Imperfect Sky (2015) and Unfix (2023).

On 20 September, the festival will screen Never Said Goodbye (18:00), directed by Ukrainian filmmaker Yevgeniy K’banchik. The film, which explores themes of loss and belonging through the story of an immigrant in a foreign country, will be introduced by actor Artur Smolyaninov.

K’banchik, now based in the United States, has been active in independent cinema for more than twenty years, with previous films awarded at festivals in Tokyo, Berlin, and New York. Later that evening at 19:30, audiences can also attend a showcase of international short films.

The closing day, 21 September, features The Reckoning (18:00), a psychological drama by Alex Breaux, presented by lead actress Kristin Griffith.

Inspired by Guy de Maupassant’s novel Pierre et Jean, the story follows a man forced to confront family secrets after his father’s unusual final wish takes them to France.

Screenings will take place at Kino Lucerna. Tickets can be reserved by contacting the organizers via [email protected]
with “PIFF 2025” in the subject line.
