After several delays and months of speculation, the American fast food chain Five Guys is finally set to open its first restaurant in Prague.
The branch, located in the Máj shopping center on Národní třída, is expected to open its doors by the end of the year, according to CzechCrunch, which first reported the news.
Originally planned for last summer, the opening was postponed multiple times — first to autumn, then to spring, and most recently to early autumn — due to construction delays and logistical complications at the Máj site.
“We can confirm that the first Czech branch of Five Guys will open in the premises of Máj by the end of this year,” said Jiří Janoušek, spokesperson for the shopping center. Patrik Němeček from PP Partners, the agency managing communications for Five Guys in Czechia, added that more details about the launch will be announced in late November.
In June, Jan Kotrbáček, head of retail leasing for Central and Eastern Europe at Cushman & Wakefield, told iDNES.cz that the company was targeting a September opening. That timeline was later adjusted as final interior work continued.
Five Guys has also launched an official Czech website, where it is already listing job opportunities for the upcoming restaurant. The site suggests the brand’s entry into the Czech market is in its final phase.
Known for its customizable burgers, hot dogs, and fries, Five Guys differentiates itself from competitors with its focus on fresh ingredients and higher-quality beef. Customers can choose from a wide range of toppings at no additional charge, tailoring each meal to their preference.
The prices are expected to be slightly higher than those at mainstream fast-food chains. Based on prices at other European locations, a standard burger is likely to cost around CZK 275.
From Virginia to Prague
Founded in 1986 near Washington, D.C., Five Guys began as a family-run business by the Murrell family. What started as a single burger joint grew into a global network with nearly 2,000 restaurants across North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
Czechia will now join the growing list of European markets where the brand operates, including Germany, France, and the United Kingdom.
