The Czech Republic has been ranked the fifth-best country in the world for digital nomads, outperforming popular destinations such as Portugal, France, and the United Arab Emirates.
The ranking, compiled by Global Citizen Solutions and reported by Euronews, assessed factors like visa accessibility, cost of living, and quality of life.
The study found that Europe dominates the list, with Spain taking first place, followed by the Netherlands, Uruguay, and Canada. Seven out of the top ten destinations for remote workers are in Europe, confirming the continent’s continued appeal for professionals seeking stability and mobility.
Spain secured the top position thanks to its dedicated digital nomad visa, which allows foreigners to work remotely either for international companies or for Spanish-based businesses, provided that domestic work accounts for no more than 20 percent of their total income.
From an economic perspective, Spain is described as more affordable than northern European countries, especially in smaller cities where living costs are lower but the quality of healthcare, safety, and services remains high.
The Czech Republic, meanwhile, ranked fifth globally and third within Europe, praised for its balance between affordability and high living standards. The country offers a stable environment, well-developed infrastructure, and a relatively low cost of living compared to Western Europe — qualities that continue to attract freelancers and remote professionals.
According to the report, “Many European jurisdictions offer direct paths to permanent residency and eventual citizenship, providing digital nomads with strong passports and long-term mobility. Add to that Europe’s reputation for safety, stable institutions, and cultural richness, and it’s easy to see why the continent remains such an attractive base.”
The Czech Republic was followed by Portugal, France, the UAE, Germany, and Malta rounding out the top ten. Interestingly, while Southeast Asia remains a favorite among travelers, its countries did not make it to the upper ranks of this year’s digital nomad list — a sign that security, stability, and residency options are becoming increasingly important to remote workers.
