7 Best Local Restaurants in Prague to Order From

We all have one. The order you place without thinking. Same app, same five restaurants, same Thursday night. It is comfortable, it is reliable, and if we are honest, it is getting a little boring.

Prague’s food scene runs far deeper than the places that sit at the top of your feed. Tucked into Nusle side streets, Dejvice corners and the quieter end of Libeň are small kitchens with loyal regulars, big personalities and dishes worth crossing the river for.

The good news? You don’t have to cross the river. They deliver.

So as the evenings get darker and the sofa gets more convincing, we asked Bolt Food to point us towards the city’s hidden gems. Here are seven places worth adding to your rotation, from an Aussie pub in Vinohrady to a half-metre pizza you will want to share (or not).

1. The Down Under, Vinohrady

For when you miss home (or just miss a proper pie).

On Vinohradská street sits what bills itself as Prague’s only Australian restaurant. The menu reads like a trip home: a whole section of beef, chicken and vegetarian pies, a chicken parmy, a proper schnitty, fish and chips and, for the curious, a bag of “Skippy’s” kangaroo jerky. Wash it down with something from the Aussie bottled beer list.

Can’t make it in? The pub classics travel well. A pie with a side of gravy and the match on your own TV is a very respectable Sunday.

What to order: the Melbourne Pie, the most popular pie on the menu, with gravy on the side. Or the chicken parmy if you’re properly hungry.

2. Pizza Bici, Dejvice

For when you want a pizza with a story

During lockdown, half of Prague learned to bake sourdough bread. Pavel Petřík went for sourdough pizza instead. A few years, many pop-ups and one very customised electric cargo bike later (yes, it carries a pizza oven that runs hotter than 500°C), Pizza Bici has a permanent home on Na Hutích in Dejvice.
The shop is decorated with vintage bike parts, and the sourdough dough is the star. The menu is short and built for takeaway, with picks like the Marinara Sprint, a Mortadella & Pistachio and the spicy Diavola Express.

What to order: the Mortadella & Pistachio for something different, the Diavola Express if you like heat.

3. Pizza Napoletana, Podolí

For flatmate nights and office Fridays

Yes, a second pizza place. But this one comes with a measuring tape. Near the Žluté lázně riverside, Pizza Napoletana bakes proper Neapolitan pies with San Marzano tomatoes and Sabelli mozzarella, plus its party trick: pizza by the half metre.

The mezzo metro pizzas are built for sharing (in theory). The Margherita D.O.P. comes with buffalo mozzarella, the Parma version with cured ham and rocket, and the Carciofara is a little wild, with artichoke cream, salsiccia, pistachios and crispy potato. Prefer your own pizza? The classic 32 cm range covers everything from marinara to quattro formaggi.

What to order: one half-metre pizza for the table, and a slice of torta caprese for whoever wins the last piece.

4. Alambre, Nusle

For when Tex-Mex just won’t cut it

If you have ever lived somewhere with a serious taco scene, you know the difference between Mexican food and “Mexican-style” food. Alambre, on náměstí Bratří Synků in Nusle, is firmly in the first camp: modern, casual and easy to love.
The menu leans into the dishes taco lovers actually crave: tacos al pastor, loaded nachos, quesadillas and the house namesake, Alambre Camarón. The real headliner, though, is the birria de res quesadilla.

What to order: birria quesadilla, no debate. Add tacos al pastor if you are feeding two.

5. Tahini, Nusle

For the hummus purists

Supermarket hummus is fine. Then you try the real thing and there is no going back. Tahini on Nuselská street calls itself the home of legendary hummus, with Israeli roots and, lately, an Indian twist on the menu too.

Start with the classic hummus plates, topped with anything from falafel and chicken shawarma to sabich or a full shakshuka. Feeling adventurous? Check the daily specials, which have included mezze spreads and hummus with lamb kebab.

What to order: Hummus & Sabich, or Hummus & Shakshuka on a slow weekend morning.

6. Hadog Burgers, Libeň

For proper American-style burgers

Out on Sokolovská, far from the burger joints of the centre, Hadog has quietly built a loyal following. Expect 200 g beef patties, melted cheese and sauces with a kick, like the Chipotle burger with smoked cheese, bacon, BBQ sauce and chipotle mayo.

Smash fans should head straight for the Smash Juicy Lucy, one of the most popular picks on the menu. Any burger can come in a gluten-free bun or with a Beyond Meat patty, so nobody gets left out of burger night.

What to order: the Smash Juicy Lucy, or the Chipotle burger if you like it smoky.

7. Bento Café & Bistro, Holešovice

For when you can’t decide which Asian cuisine you’re craving

Small room, fresh flowers on the tables, big portions. Bento Café & Bistro in Holešovice is the kind of neighbourhood spot locals tend to keep to themselves.

The menu hops across Asia, from Vietnamese bun nem to udon noodles and a red curry ramen that regulars rave about.
It is exactly what you want on a grey November evening: something warm, something fresh and a little bit of everything. Don’t skip the homemade passion fruit lemonade.

What to order: red curry ramen on a cold night, bun nem when you want something lighter.

Your new rotation, sorted

An Aussie pie in Vinohrady, sourdough from a cargo-bike pizzaiolo, birria in Nusle and ramen in Holešovice. Prague tastes a lot more interesting once you look past the usual suspects.

All seven are available on Bolt Food, so the only thing you need to explore is the app. Open Bolt Food, search for any of the names above and try something new this week. Your Thursday-night order will forgive you.

Ordering more than once a week? Then Bolt Plus is worth a look. Members get free delivery from Bolt Food partner restaurants marked with a “+” in the app, on orders over 170 CZK (delivery discount up to 45 CZK), with no promo codes to type in.
