UK updates Eastern Mediterranean travel advice US-Iran deal Cyprus tourism benefit

The UK Foreign Office has updated its travel advice for countries across the Eastern Mediterranean, including Cyprus, following the signing of a US-Iran agreement for an immediate ceasefire and de-escalation of the Gulf crisis.

“The Foreign Office’s intention is to show that there is a de-escalation of the crisis,” a senior diplomatic source told CNA, adding that the development is likely to further boost tourist travel to the region.

This is the second time within days that the UK Foreign Office has effectively upgraded Cyprus’s standing in terms of travel safety.

Earlier this month it removed from its Cyprus travel advice the warning of “increased risk of regional tension which could cause travel disruption and have other unpredictable consequences” — a warning that had been in place since early March following the Iranian drone strike on RAF Akrotiri.
