The 12th annual memorial service for the former President of the Republic of Cyprus and founder of the Democratic Rally, Glafcos Clerides, will take place this Sunday, 2nd November. The service will be held at the Cathedral of Apostle Barnabas in Nicosia, presided over by Archbishop Georgios of Cyprus.
According to the Democratic Rally, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will be in Cyprus for the occasion and will deliver a memorial address. Coffee will follow at the party’s central offices on Pindarou Street.
On this occasion, it would be wise for DISY to spend a few moments considering whether Clerides himself would declare himself proud—as today’s leadership does—of that notorious monument in the European Parliament, which showcases only one side of the Cypriot tragedy and sidelines the hundreds of missing Turkish Cypriots.
