The president of EDEK party has called for former party leader Marinos Sizopoulos to consent to waiving his parliamentary immunity amid corruption allegations related to the TAXAN company case.
Nikos Anastasiou told Philenews that he and the party maintain zero tolerance towards corruption and cronyism issues. His comments followed Phileleftheros reports about the former EDEK president’s involvement in the TAXAN company purchase and sale case.
Party maintains zero tolerance policy on corruption
When asked whether the matter would be discussed by the party’s collective bodies regarding any decision concerning Sizopoulos, Anastasiou said they would monitor developments and react accordingly.
Party officials recalled that EDEK had previously decided to remove Feidias Sarikas from both the parliamentary group and party organs during Giannakis Omirou’s presidency, pending the outcome of the SAPA-related case.
Previous precedent set with Feidias Sarikas case
Anastasiou emphasised that the case has no connection to EDEK beyond the fact that Sizopoulos served as party president. He added that EDEK remains a living organism that continues its battle ahead of parliamentary elections, still bearing open wounds.
