Child, 7, and mother revived in Limassol following sedative overdose

A seven-year-old child and his mother were rushed to a private hospital in Limassol on Tuesday night after being found unconscious following the ingestion of a significant quantity of sedative medication.

Authorities confirmed on Wednesday that the mother has been compulsorily detained at the Athalassa Psychiatric Hospital following a court order and an evaluation by a government psychiatrist.

The incident was discovered by the child’s father, who initially believed the boy was asleep before realising that both his wife and son were unresponsive.

Medical teams performed emergency interventions to revive the pair, with the child reportedly stabilising after receiving specialised treatment.

The investigation by Limassol police indicates that the mother intentionally administered the sedatives to the child before consuming a large dose herself.
