Arrest made over Larnaca motorway windscreen incident as police investigate driver link

Larnaca police have arrested a person in connection with the incident in which a 65-year-old British man was carried on a hire car’s windscreen along the Larnaca-Airport motorway last Wednesday. Investigators are examining whether the arrested person was the driver of the vehicle.

The arrest followed the evaluation of specific information by police. The person faces charges of causing a road collision, leaving the scene, and negligent and reckless acts.

The incident came to public attention after a video circulated on social media showing the hire car accelerating with the man on its windscreen.

According to police, the sequence of events began when the 65-year-old retired man got out of his vehicle following a collision on the road between the Rizoelia and Kalo Chorio roundabouts and approached the second car to exchange details.

A police patrol car arrived shortly afterwards. Upon seeing it, the driver of the second vehicle sped off.

The 65-year-old tried to stop him and ended up on the windscreen as the car travelled more than two kilometres along the motorway before he fell onto the road, sustaining minor injuries. The driver fled the scene.

The reason the driver left remains unknown.
