HAVANA TIMES – Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado had an intense day this Thursday, March 12, in Santiago, Chile, centered on an emotional mass gathering with the Venezuelan diaspora and several political activities.
Machado met with hundreds of fellow Venezuelans in the area of Paseo Bulnes and Parque Almagro, in the heart of the Chilean capital. The crowd spilled into the streets with embraces, tears, and Venezuelan flags.
The leader received a warm welcome and repeated messages of hope: “Soon we will embrace each other in Venezuela, with our families and in freedom,” she told those attending.
Each personal interaction made her feel “at home,” according to her own words after the event, during which she promised Venezuelan migrants that soon “everything will be fine” and that democracy in Venezuela will soon be restored.
The gathering concluded a packed agenda that included a press conference in which she analyzed Venezuela’s crisis, praised Chile’s support for migrants, and asked for collaboration to enable a dignified and voluntary return.
Machado thanked Chile for welcoming nearly 700,000 Venezuelan residents and expressed appreciation for the support of the new president, Jose Antonio Kast.
Earlier, the Santiago city government—headed by Mayor Mario Desbordes—presented her with the keys to the city and declared her an Illustrious Visitor at City Hall.
Machado received the recognition as a symbol of her leadership in defending democracy and human rights. The visit also took place within the context of her participation the previous day in the presidential inauguration in Valparaíso, where she had already shared moments with Venezuelans.
The day reinforced her message of continental unity in the struggle for Venezuela’s freedom and for the mass return of the diaspora.
