Hot with afternoon showers, with gradually increasing instability toward the weekend

HAVANA TIMES – Atmospheric conditions over western Cuba continue to follow the typical summer pattern, with intense daytime heating fueling the development of convective clouds and afternoon showers over the capital. Easterly and northeasterly winds continue to bring moisture in from the Atlantic, with a gradual increase in wind strength expected toward the weekend.
Thursday, July 30, and Friday, July 31, will have scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Saturday, August 1, and Sunday, August 2, will see a slight decrease in rainfall, with partly cloudy skies and longer periods of sunshine. On Monday, August 3, and Tuesday, August 4, afternoon convective activity will increase once again, while isolated showers are forecast for Wednesday, August 5, mainly over coastal and inland areas of Havana.
Winds will be predominantly from the east and northeast, ranging from 12 to 35 km/h (7 to 22 mph), with occasional gusts of up to 45 km/h (28 mph) toward the weekend. Relative humidity will remain high, between 60% and 90%. High temperatures will range between 32 and 34°C (90–93°F), with lows between 25 and 26°C (77–79°F). Sea surface temperatures will stay near 29°C (84°F).
Across the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of Mexico, no tropical cyclone development is expected during the next seven days, according to the latest bulletin from the US National Hurricane Center. Cuba’s Institute of Meteorology (Insmet) continues its routine monitoring throughout the Atlantic hurricane season, which runs from June 1 through November 30.
