July the 25th, 2026 – The programme has been announced to mark this year’s Oluja (Operation Storm) anniversary in Knin.
Knin is preparing for one of Croatia’s most important annual commemorations, with a packed programme marking Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day, Croatian Veterans Day, and the anniversary of Operation Storm (Oluja). As is traditional, the celebration will begin early in the morning with the dawn march, or “budnica,” through the old streets of Knin. Index reports that the anniversary’s full programme will continue with official ceremonies, including paying tribute to fallen Croatian soldiers and the main commemorative events across the city.
A central part of the day will take place at Knin Fortress, where the Croatian flag will be raised in a symbolic ceremony, followed by remembrance activities honouring those who lost their lives during Operation Storm. Visitors will also be able to attend a Catholic mass, enjoy traditional military bean stew (vojnički grah), and take part in additional events throughout the city.
The evening programme will cloak Knin in music and celebration, with a concert planned as the final major event of the day. Organisers expect thousands of visitors to gather in the city for the commemoration. For many Croatians, Knin remains a symbolic location every single August, as the city represents one of the most significant moments in all of modern Croatian history and continues to host the country’s central Oluja anniversary celebrations.
