ZAGREB, 1 June (Hina) – From Monday, 1 June, the Patient Accommodation Centre called “Križ” (“Cross“ in English) on Vrhovec in Zagreb will begin accepting patients for temporary accommodation, the Sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross, who initiated the project, have recently reported.
“The Sisters of Mercy are beginning to receive oncology patients, both adults and children, who require temporary accommodation and overnight stays while undergoing their therapy in Zagreb,” this order of Catholic nuns stated.
The furnishing and landscaping of the facility cost more than three million euros, and the project was completed over the course of a year and a half, thanks primarily to support from the government, as well as donations from a number of companies and private benefactors.
The building has 18 twin rooms, a communal living room for socialising and visits, a chapel, and a hall. Each floor also has a shared kitchenette where patients and their companions will be able to prepare meals, with provisions supplied.
Accommodation for oncology patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy will be free of charge, and the centre will be financed from its own resources.
For this purpose, the association “Križarica” has been established to support the work of the centre through project applications and participation in funding calls.

The free Patient Accommodation Centre “Križ” was officially opened in mid-April, and the project was launched by the Sisters with the aim of providing people coming for chemotherapy or radiotherapy with dignified accommodation outside the hospital.
Particular attention will be given to children, most commonly those being treated for leukaemia.
