France Confirms Requests Sent to Serbia Regarding Jean-Michel Nicolier

November the 6th, 2025 – After 34 years, a hero was finally laid to rest in Vukovar today. France has confirmed requests have been sent to the appropriate authorities in Serbia regarding the Jean-Michel Nicolier case.

As 24sata/Ivan Stengl writes, French Ambassador Fabien Fieschi has revealed that the legal battle surrounding Jean-Michel Nicolier’s horrific murder at the hands of Serb war criminals is continuing up in France.

French Ambassador Fieschi has confirmed that Jean-Michel Nicolier’s family initiated legal proceedings in France several years ago. This process resulted in the appointment of an independent judge who is exclusively responsible for this entire case, which testifies to the seriousness with which the French judiciary has approached the devastating war crime and crime against humanity carried out by the Serbs at Ovčara.

The investigation has not remained quiet and solely within French borders. The Ambassador revealed details of the intensive cooperation between the French and Croatian police and judiciary that has been taking place.

“Investigators and members of the French police visited Croatia in September when several bodies, one of them suspected to be that of Jean, were discovered. They returned again after Jean-Michel Nicolier’s body was formally identified in order to cooperate with the Croatian judicial system and gain a proper understanding og all the elements that the Croatian side had found,” explained Fieschi.

I know directly from them that the cooperation with the Croatian judiciary and the entire Croatian administration regarding the Jean-Michel Nicolier case has genuinely been excellent. The evidence will now be taken to the French authorities.

This evidence, collected at the site of the body’s initial discovery, is now becoming a key part of the French court file and could open new chapters in the prosecution of those responsible for the crime.

There is a third, unavoidable side to the case, and it involves France and its requests to Serbia. When asked about cooperation with Serbia, Ambassador Fieschi was more cautious in his approach to answering, but confirmed that France had not neglected this key link in the chain of responsibility.

“I can only tell you that France, more specifically the judge, has already sent several requests for cooperation to the authorities in Serbia,” he said, adding that he could not prejudge future steps.
