10 Million Passengers in Croatian Airports So Far in 2025

October the 16th, 2025 – There have been a massive 10 million passengers processed across all Croatian airports so far in 2025, showcasing this country’s huge tourist flows, particularly during summer.

As Sinisa Malus/Poslovni Dnevnik writes, during the first eight months of 2025, there were just over 10 million passengers recorded as passing through all Croatian airports. That’s representative of 6.6% more than in the same period last year, with an increase of 6% also being achieved during the month of August with 2.3 million passengers processed. This latest information is according to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), according to which cargo traffic across Croatia has been declining.

The growth in passenger traffic at Croatian airports was accompanied by an increase in aircraft operations – over the first eight months of 2025, there were 103.3 thousand or 4.6% more aircraft operations than back during the same period last year. During the very busy month of August alone, there were just over 21.4 thousand, which is an increase of 3.4% compared to that same month in 2024.

Cargo traffic, however, decreased. It dropped by 10.7% over the first eight months of 2025, from around 6,400 tonnes. During the month of August alone there were 732 tonnes of cargo or 21.5% less recorded than in August last year. Among the Croatian airports, Split Airport stands out with 757.5 thousand passengers processed in August, which is 4.7% more than in the same month last year. Looking at the entire first eight months of 2025, the extremely seasonally governed Split Airport came in second place with 2.8 million passengers or 7% more than the first eight months of 2024.

Dubrovnik Airport came in second place in August 2025 with 541.5 thousand passengers processed, which is an increase of 2.4% compared to last August. Croatia’s southernmost airport also recorded a higher increase of 4.7% in this year’s first eight months with 2.2 million passengers processed, which puts it in third place overall. Third in terms of the number of passengers in August with 487.7 thousand is Zagreb Airport, which thus achieved the largest increase of 11.6 percent among all Croatian airports compared to last August and also saw the largest increase (of 9.4%) for the first eight months of 2025, with almost 3.1 million passengers. These figures make Zagreb Airport a clear “winner” and in first place for both August and the whole year (bar September) so far.

Zadar Airport served almost 361 thousand passengers in August this year, or 8.7% more than last year, and in the first eight months of 2025, it recorded 1.2 million or 2.8% more. At Pula Airport, August passed with 125.4 thousand passengers, which is representative of 4.5% more, and in eight months, the number of passengers increased by 5.4%, to 420 thousand. With 39 thousand passengers served in August, Rijeka Airport is up 3.2% compared to the same month last year, and at the eight-month level with almost 118 thousand, it is up 5.3%.

The only negative recorded among the larger Croatian airports is Osijek Airport, which saw 6.2% fewer passengers in August, or about 6,400. Over the first eight months of 2025, it also recorded a negative of 1.4% with a total of 31.3 thousand passengers served. The only island airport, on Brač, had a decrease in the number of passengers by about 20 percent in August and in the first eight months compared to the same months last year, while the Mali Lošinj airport had fewer passengers in August, but more in the first eight months of the year.

During the traditionally busy month of August, the largest international passenger traffic in all of Europe was achieved with airports in Germany and the United Kingdom, with which increases were also achieved. In third place were airports in France, with slightly fewer passengers transported all together.
