Road infrastructure development projects often come with social challenges, particularly in communities directly affected by construction activities. In areas such as the Bamenda Urban Crossing, part of the Babadjou–Bamenda road project, the population is increasingly exposed to risks of gender-based violence, property damage, theft, disruption of water supply, destruction of electricity lines, dust and noise pollution.

To address these challenges, the International Circle for the Promotion of the Creation (CIPCRE) organized a training workshop on Friday, February 20, 2026, at Mandela Junction in Bamenda.
The workshop brought together about 50 participants, including traditional, religious, and youth leaders from Bamenda III and II Subdivisions. The training focused on the Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM), a platform designed to receive, assess, and resolve complaints arising from project activities.

Speaking during the session, Ndibugom Robinson, GRM Animator at CIPCRE, explained that the workshop aimed to sensitize the population through community leaders.

He encouraged participants to “relay the information within their respective communities to help minimize or eliminate risk factors associated with the construction works”
He also noted that “economic vulnerability and the presence of external workers can aggravate social risks if preventive measures are not put in place”.

The training also equipped local leaders with the skills to better identify potential risks, provide support to victims, and ensure that complaints are reported safely and handled transparently.

Organizers emphasized that the overall objective is to ensure that development initiatives improve not only mobility but also the safety, dignity, and well-being of communities living along the road corridor.

Ending the workshop, the NGO called the attention of the participants on the liberation of the right of way along the Bamenda Urban Crossing, and the importance of protecting our road patrimony.
