At least 147 people were killed and 383 others injured in 219 road accidents across Cambodia in October, with speeding and failure to respect the right of way identified as the leading causes.
According to a report from the National Police submitted to the Ministry of Interior spokesperson, the number of road accidents increased by seven cases compared with September. Fatalities rose by 31, while the number of injured people increased by 107.
Most accidents occurred at night, accounting for 138 of the 219 cases recorded during the month.
Speeding was the leading cause, contributing to 91 accidents, followed by failure to give way in 53 cases.
Authorities resumed stricter enforcement of the Law on Road Traffic from September 1, focusing on areas with high accident rates, including Phnom Penh, Preah Sihanouk, Kandal, Kampong Speu and Svay Rieng provinces.
The enforcement measures aim to prevent road accidents, reduce fatalities and injuries as much as possible.
