Cambodia Vows Crackdown on Online Scams, Says Long Bay Site Under Investigation

Cambodia has reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying its crackdown on online scams, saying authorities have investigated suspected scam operations at the Long Bay development area in Koh Kong province and are pursuing legal action against those involved.

Senior Minister Chhay Sinarith, head of the Secretariat of the Commission for Combating Online Scams (CCOS), said the Royal Government remained firmly committed to enforcing the law, including prosecuting ringleaders and accomplices, freezing criminal assets and continuing investigations into cases before the courts.

In a statement, Sinarith said authorities had taken legal action against suspected scam operations as part of the national campaign to combat technology-facilitated crimes.

Regarding the Long Bay development area, he said authorities discovered several buildings suspected of being linked to online scam activities in February 2026, after the suspected criminal groups had fled the site, leaving behind evidence.

Koh Kong provincial authorities detained several suspects and confiscated evidence for investigation, while sealing off and maintaining strict control over the site, he said.

On September 5, Prime Minister Hun Manet personally visited sites under the authorities’ control in Koh Kong province to monitor progress, according to Sinarith.

The Prime Minister instructed the relevant authorities to maintain strict control over the sites and evidence and conduct thorough investigations, he added.

Sinarith also addressed the case of Deng Pibing, saying Cambodian authorities were investigating suspected activities linked to the Long Bay development area.

According to a report from the General Department of Immigration, Deng Pibing left Cambodia in late May 2026, he said.

Citing information from specialised sources, Sinarith said Deng Pibing had been issued a Red Notice by the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol).
