The Ministry of Information has launched its second “Goodwill Campaign” to strengthen compliance with regulations governing advertisements for alcohol products and sugar-sweetened beverages, with around 500 government officials, business representatives, advertisers, artists, content creators and journalists attending the event in Phnom Penh on Wednesday.
Minister of Information Neth Pheaktra, who chairs the Working Group for the Management of Alcohol Product Advertising, presided over the October 28 campaign, which aims to promote responsible advertising, encourage compliance with existing laws and regulations, and protect public well-being.
Held under the theme of strengthening necessary measures to regulate advertising of alcohol products and sugar-sweetened beverages, the campaign encourages manufacturers, distributors, businesses, advertisers and media organisations to participate voluntarily and responsibly in implementing the relevant measures.
The ministry organised the campaign in cooperation with MSA Marketing Solution Asia and the Cambodian Advertising Media Agency Association, with sponsorship from private-sector companies.
The ministry said the initiative would raise awareness of advertising regulations, encourage greater scrutiny of commercial content and strengthen accountability among stakeholders involved in producing, distributing and disseminating advertisements.
It also aims to strengthen cooperation between government institutions, the private sector and the media to ensure that advertising practices comply with the law, adhere to ethical standards and take the public interest into account.
The campaign provided a platform for stakeholders to reaffirm their commitment to responsible advertising and exchange information and experience to improve the implementation of advertising controls.
