Cambodia distributed 482.6 tonnes of high-quality rice seeds to nearly 5,000 flood-hit farming families in north-western Banteay Meanchey province on Friday to help restore agricultural production.
Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister Dith Tina handed over the aid on behalf of Prime Minister Hun Manet during a provincial ceremony.
More than 4,800 vulnerable households received 100 kilograms of seeds each, comprising 4,621 families in Mongkul Borey district and 205 in Serey Sophorn city.
Tina conveyed Mr Hun Manet’s sympathy to residents, reiterating that national and local authorities remain committed to supporting citizens during natural disasters.
“The seed distribution aims to alleviate hardship, support family livelihoods and enable farmers to restore cultivation promptly,” Tina said, noting that timely aid helps mitigate long-term impact and safeguards rural food security.
Tina also thanked provincial, city and district officials for quickly evacuating residents to safety and delivering emergency relief during the inundation. AKP
