Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), through its Centre for Transport Research (CfTR), hosted an International Sharing Session titled Smart Mobility for Sustainable Cities: International Perspectives on Traffic Management, Transportation Systems and Electric Vehicles at Lecture Theatre 2, UTB Library Complex.
The event was officiated by Yang Mulia Haji Mohammad Salihin bin Haji Aspar, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Transport) at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC), as the Guest of Honour.
The programme began with the recital of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat led by Yang Mulia Ustaz Muhammad Fazalley bin Haji Hidup, followed by welcoming remarks by Dr Sheik Mohammed Sulthan, Acting Director of the Centre for Transport Research, Universiti Teknologi Brunei. Also present was Associate Professor Pengiran Dr. Mohamad Iskandar bin Pengiran Haji Petra, Acting Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Brunei.

The sharing session featured three international speakers who joined virtually to present perspectives on advancing sustainable transport systems and smart mobility.
Dr. Uthane Supatti, Assistant Professor at Kasetsart University and Vice President of the Electric Vehicle Association of Thailand (EVAT), discussed the rapid growth of electric vehicles and the expansion of charging infrastructure in Thailand.
Dr. Munavar Fairooz, Assistant Professor at the National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC), India, shared insights into smart and adaptive traffic control in resource-constrained environments, highlighting a case study from southern India.

Meanwhile, Mr. Ma’ruf T. Purnomo, Lecturer at Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) in Semarang, Indonesia and Board Member of the Indonesian Transportation Society, presented on the implementation of smart mobility within Indonesia’s urban public transportation system.

The presentations highlighted innovative approaches to traffic management, transportation systems and electric mobility, while emphasising the value of international collaboration in developing smarter and more sustainable cities.
Adding a practical element to the programme, Berjaya Sdn Bhd conducted a live demonstration of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and modern vehicle safety features. The demonstration showcased how emerging automotive technologies can improve road safety and traffic efficiency.

Held in conjunction with UTB’s 40th Anniversary Celebration, the event brought together participants interested in exploring innovative solutions for sustainable transportation. It also reflected UTB’s commitment to advancing transport research and fostering knowledge exchange on sustainable development while marking four decades of academic excellence and innovation.
The session concluded with a networking reception, providing participants with the opportunity to continue discussions and exchange ideas on shaping smarter, greener cities through international collaboration.
