Maju Motors unveils luxurious seven-seater BYD M9 in Brunei

Maju Motors has introduced the BYD M9 to Brunei, a new seven-seater PHEV MPV that aims to set a benchmark in its segment with advanced features and an exceptional electric-only range.

The launch by the sole distributor of BYD in the country marked the debut of the right-hand drive version of the vehicle, making Brunei its first market worldwide.

The event was witnessed by 50 new BYD M9 customers, who officially received their vehicles during the event, marking a significant milestone for BYD’s growing presence in Brunei’s new energy vehicle market.

Speaking at the ceremony held at JP Colonnade, Managing Director of Maju Motors Sdn Bhd Chan Key Hong congratulated the new owners, describing them as among the first in the world to choose a next-generation new energy vehicle and play a role in shaping a greener future for the next generation.

Chan also highlighted BYD’s strong global and local performance, noting that the company recorded global sales of 4,602,436 units in 2025, making it the world’s number one new energy vehicle seller.

BYD has remained the number one NEV brand in the sultanate for two consecutive years in 2024 and 2025.

He added that 1,000 BYD units were sold locally last year. The Sealion 6 emerged as Brunei’s top-selling PHEV SUV, while the BYD Sealion 7 became the country’s number one electric vehicle. Meanwhile, the recently launched BYD Seal 5 has recorded more than 250 units sold within just three months.

A new benchmark for PHEV MPVs

Introducing the BYD M9, Maju Motors Marketing Manager Jerrell Chan said the model sets a new benchmark in the PHEV MPV segment, combining long-range efficiency, strong performance and premium comfort tailored for families.

Powered by BYD’s Xiaoyun 2.5T DM-i engine, the M9 delivers a maximum output of 268 horsepower and accelerates from zero to 100 kilometres per hour in 8.5 seconds. It offers a 170-kilometre pure electric range, the longest EV range for a PHEV in Brunei Darussalam, along with an NEDC combined range of 1,047 kilometres and fuel consumption as low as two litres.

Bold and modern design

The BYD M9 features BYD’s signature Dragon Face front grille with a V-shaped armoured design that conveys power and elegance. Its alloy wheels are inspired by a round shield, blending modern styling with a sense of strength and security.

The body profile resembles the shape of an arrow, creating a smooth and refined visual impression, while the rear is accented by taillights inspired by the infinity symbol, representing luck and prosperity. The M9 is available in Arctic White, Dark Purple, Atlantic Grey and Cosmos Black.

Premium and intelligent interior

Inside, the BYD M9 offers a spacious 2+2+3 seating layout designed for comfort and long journeys. The cabin features 128-colour ambient lighting, a fragrance system and optional PM2.5 air filtration to enhance the in-car environment.

A 15.6-inch central display powered by the DiLink 150 system supports DeepSeek AI voice control, sentinel mode, karaoke without microphones and cross-brand phone connectivity. Additional highlights include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 26-inch W-HUD on the top trim and an optional 12.3-inch passenger entertainment screen.

Both front seats are equipped with heating, ventilation, memory and massage functions. Second-row captain seats feature leg rests, folding tables, ventilation and integrated audio in the headrests. The third-row seats can be electrically folded and adjusted, while cargo capacity measures 470 litres and can be expanded up to 2,036 litres.

Advanced safety and driver assistance

In terms of safety, the BYD M9 is equipped with BYD’s God’s Eye Advanced Driving Assistance System. The system utilises 31 sensors throughout the vehicle, including five millimetre-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars and 14 high-definition cameras, enhancing protection and driving confidence for both driver and passengers.

The BYD M9 is priced from BND 63,900 and was launched as part of the BYD Family Fest at Jerudong Park Colonnade. Ambassador-Designate of China to Brunei Darussalam Chen Shaochun was also present at the ceremony.
