International School Brunei (ISB) officially opened its Centre for Inclusive Learning (CIL) Bandar in Kg Sungai Hanching on September 15, providing specialist support for children with diverse learning needs in the Brunei-Muara District.
The opening ceremony was officiated by Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the Ministry of Education, who attended as the guest of honour.
The new centre follows the establishment of the award-winning ISB CIL in Panaga, Kuala Belait, in January 2021. ISB CIL is a specialist provision that offers support for students with Special Educational Needs within a holistic and positive learning environment.

In his welcoming remarks, ISB Executive Principal Mr Dominic Morley said the opening marked an important milestone for the school and, more importantly, for the children and families it serves.
He said the centre reflects ISB’s commitment to ensuring every child has the opportunity to learn, belong and thrive, while inclusion remains a fundamental part of the school’s approach across all four campuses.
“The opening of this new Centre for Inclusive Learning represents the next step in that journey. It provides specialist facilities, dedicated staff, and opportunities for students to develop confidence, independence, communication skills, and academic success,” he said.
Ms Suzie Rush, Head of Inclusion at ISB and Head of the ISB Centre for Inclusive Learning, said the centre’s approach brings together evidence-based educational best practice, developmental psychology and occupational therapy to support students in building confidence, flexibility, independence and new skills.

She highlighted the importance of understanding each child’s individual needs in making decisions about how best to support their learning and development.
The ceremony continued with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Dr Shamsiah and ISB Deputy Board Chairman Mr Nicholas King, officially marking the opening of CIL Bandar.
Guests were also treated to performances by students from ISB CIL and the main ISB campus before touring the newly opened centre.
