Gleneagles JPMC launches Back-to-School CSR Initiative to support underprivileged students

Gleneagles JPMC marked another milestone in its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) journey through its first-ever Back-to-School Assistance Programme, aimed at helping underprivileged students prepare for the new school year in 2026.

In a collaboration with Majlis Kesejahteraan Masyarakat (MKM) Brunei, staff volunteers from the hospital came together to support 20 children by treating them to an end-of-year shopping experience for essential school supplies.

The initiative took place at Samima Sdn Bhd Madang branch, where Gleneagles JPMC volunteers gathered to meet the families and accompany the students as they selected the school supplies they needed for the upcoming year.

Adding to the value of the initiative, Samima extended a 10% discount on every receipt, allowing the assistance to go even further in supporting the children’s needs.

In attendance as Guest of Honour was Gleneagles JPMC’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Peter Tay, who personally greeted the families and presented the assistance packages prepared for each student.

He also presented a $200 Samima shopping voucher along with $50 cash to each child, enabling them to purchase school essentials according to their individual needs. The event was also graced by the presence of the President of MKM Brunei, Yusof Halim, reflecting the strong partnership between the organisation and the hospital in uplifting the community.

Speaking at the event, Gleneagles JPMC’s Chief Operating Officer, Izzul Hamzi Haji Jomari, shared that while healthcare remains the hospital’s core focus, its responsibility extends beyond hospital walls, with education playing an equally vital role in shaping a better future. He added that the initiative was not only about providing school supplies, but also about offering encouragement, confidence, and reassurance to the children as they prepare for the new school year.

Volunteers took the time to understand the individual needs of each child, ensuring they received the right items for their level and school requirements. The interaction created a meaningful connection between the hospital, the families, and the wider community, further highlighting the spirit of compassion and teamwork behind this inaugural back-to-school initiative.

Gleneagles JPMC hopes this programme will become a recurring effort, strengthening community ties and supporting more families in the years to come.
