The Presidency of BiH appointed new Members of the Commission for National Monuments

Today, the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina adopted the Decision on the appointment of the Commission for the Preservation of National Monuments, which returned foreign experts after 10 years and which will de facto unblock the work of the Commission.

After the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina made two decisions on the work of the Commission for the Preservation of National Monuments on January 12, at today’s session, the decisions were implemented by appointing new members.

With the decisions made on January 12, foreign members were returned to the decision-making process, and the right of veto, which effectively blocked the commission’s work to a large extent, was abolished.

As Klix.ba learns, at today’s session of the Presidency, two members of the Commission from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina were appointed as proposals of the members of the Presidency Denis Bećirović and Željko Komšić. Two members were also appointed, whose names were submitted by the Director General of UNESCO.

The member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina from Republika Srpska, Željka Cvijanović, refused to offer her proposal and announced that she would request a session of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska.

Cvijanović tried to interpret the rules of procedure to present the appointment of foreign members as a matter of foreign policy, but ultimately the Presidency rejected this effort.

It is still necessary for the decision to be published in the Official Gazette of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In 2016, the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, consisting of Bakir Izetbegović, Dragan Čović and Mladen Ivanić, adopted decisions introducing consensus decision-making and removing foreign experts.
