BiH Presidency Members met with Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas

Member of the Presidency of BiH, Denis Bećirović, spoke with the High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas.

Bećirović thanked High Representative Kallas for the EU’s continued support for Bosnia and Herzegovina, and stressed that for the citizens of our country, European and Euro-Atlantic integrations are a key political, security and economic priority. He emphasized that Bosnia and Herzegovina has shown a clear commitment to full membership in the EU, including by fully aligning itself with the EU’s common foreign and security policy, including supporting Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression.

The Member of the Presidency of BiH pointed out that Bosnia and Herzegovina and the EU must learn a serious lesson from 2025. It is very dangerous to question the mandate and powers of the OHR in any way, as it is an institution established by Annex 10 of the Dayton Peace Agreement. The existence and mandate of the OHR are a very important mechanism to prevent destructive policies that threaten peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region. The High Representative is an important factor for peace and protection of the Dayton Peace Agreement.

Bećirović stressed that the extension of the mandate of the EUFOR Althea mission is very important, which is an important factor in preserving stability and peace.

It was emphasized in the conversation that membership in the EU and NATO remain the strategic foreign policy goals of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He welcomed the continuation of the EU’s financial and technical support through the Growth Plan and mechanisms intended to strengthen institutions, the economy and the rule of law.

The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, reiterated the EU’s strong commitment to the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as to the prosperity and European future of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Kallas supported the extension of the mandate of the EUFOR Althea mission as an important factor for security and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina. She emphasized that the political situation in the country is more stable, and welcomed the fact that the rule of law has finally prevailed.

The High Representative assessed as very positive the fact that Bosnia and Herzegovina is fully aligned with the EU’s foreign and security policy, which will be confirmed in the next European Commission’s periodic report on Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The meeting was also attended by BiH Presidency Member Željka Cvijanović.
