American actor Carlos Ray Chuck Norris has died at the age of 87, his family announced.

In a post on Instagram by Norris’ family members, it is stated that the actor died yesterday morning local time.

The family stated that they want the circumstances of Norris’ death to remain private, but that he passed away surrounded by his loved ones.

The family recalls that Norris was a master of martial arts, that he represented a symbol of strength to the world, while to those closest to him he was a devoted husband, a wonderful father and grandfather, a great brother and the heart of the family.

“He lived his life with faith, purpose and unwavering dedication to the people he loved. Through his work, discipline and kindness, he inspired millions around the world and left a lasting impact on countless lives,” the post stated.

Norris began his acting career in the early 1970s and acted alongside numerous other stars, including Bruce Lee.
