President Donald Trump sued reporters at The Wall Street Journal and the paper’s owner, Rupert Murdoch, on Friday, a day after the paper published the contents of a racy birthday message Trump reportedly sent Jeffrey Epstein in 2003, according to a court docket.

Trump’s lawsuit over the article, written by Journal reporters Khadeeja Safdar and Joe Palazzolo, claims their actions were “malicious, deliberate, and despicable” and that the story will cause “overwhelming financial and reputational harm” to the president. It seeks at least $10 billion dollars.

Trump vowed to sue in comments to the Journal and a subsequent, rage-filled post on Truth Social on Thursday after the paper reported that Trump’s birthday card to the late sex offender featured a drawing of the outline of a naked woman’s body and a cryptic message: “Happy Birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret.”

“The Wall Street Journal printed a FAKE letter, supposedly to Epstein,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “These are not my words, not the way I talk. Also, I don’t draw pictures. I told Rupert Murdoch it was a Scam, that he shouldn’t print this Fake Story. But he did, and now I’m going to sue his ass off, and that of his third rate newspaper.”

The complaint centers on the article presenting the letter from Trump “as fact,” even though they “failed to attach the letter, failed to attach the alleged drawing, failed to show proof that President Trump authored or signed any such letter, and failed to explain how this purported letter was obtained,” the lawsuit argues.

“The reason for those failures is because no authentic letter or drawing exists,” it continues. “Defendants concocted this story to malign President Trump’s character and integrity and deceptively portray him in a false light.”

The president announced what he’s calling a “historic legal action” on Truth Social along with a lengthy rant.

“This lawsuit is filed not only on behalf of your favorite President, ME, but also in order to continue standing up for ALL Americans who will no longer tolerate the abusive wrongdoings of the Fake News Media,” Trump wrote, listing out the other media outlets he’s sued, saying they promote “disgusting LIES, and even FRAUD, to the American People.”

Trump, who denies having anything to do with the birthday card, filed his lawsuit in Miami federal court. And while he said he doesn’t draw pictures, Trump’s doodles over the years say otherwise.

Trump and his administration have already come under fire — even from his own supporters — for not releasing more information related to Epstein’s case.

During a bill signing on Friday, Trump turned his back on reporters attempting to ask him questions.

News Corp and the White House did not immediately return a request for comment.

PEN America, the literary and free expression group, said the lawsuit has grave implications for press freedoms in the U.S.

“President Trump’s lawsuit against The Wall Street Journal is not an isolated tantrum, but part of a yearslong campaign to erode press freedom and suppress journalism that challenges him,” Tim Richardson, PEN America’s journalism and disinformation program manager, said in a statement. “These efforts are designed to chill accountability reporting and echo a familiar playbook: undermine independent media, demand loyalty, and retaliate against those who stand up to power.”
