Border Czar Tom Homan claimed the several deaths springing from confrontations with Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents might not have happened if the deceased were following orders before he admitted he hadn’t seen crucial video evidence from one of the cases.

Addressing the two fatal shootings and the death of a man fleeing from agents, which all happened in a span of a week, Homan told “Face the Nation” host Margaret Brennan that anti-ICE sentiment has “emboldened” people to not comply with law enforcement.

According to the White House official, protestors’ calls to “resist” ICE and congress members who have questioned the agency’s legitimacy were to blame, and that “no matter what people think of ICE, no matter what you think of immigration law, you should always comply with law enforcement.”

“They would be alive today if they simply complied with a vehicle stop by federal law enforcement. Just comply,” he argued, adding there are legal avenues for people to dispute any mistreatment or what they believed were unlawful stops.

Brennan then asked how that would play out in instances where there was little to no way to identify ICE as law enforcement, citing the man in Houston, Texas, whose family claims he likely fled agents fearing that the people in the unmarked vehicle tailing him were robbers.

When Homan said the man still should have heeded the vehicle’s emergency lights, Brennan noted there were no lights visible in video of the Houston incident, nor any body camera footage to back his claim.

Apparently blindsided by the facts undercutting his defense, the border czar admitted he had not seen the video evidence Brennan was talking about.

Scrambling for somewhere to place the blame, Homan said the agents would have been wearing body cameras if Democrats did not delay funding to the Department of Homeland Security with a partial government shutdown earlier this year.

Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a Mexican national and father of three, was shot and killed in Houston during an attempted traffic stop on July 7. Less than a week later, Joan Sebastian Guerrero, a Colombian citizen with legal work authorization, was killed by an agent in Biddeford, Maine. One day later, a 28-year-old man was struck and killed by a tractor trailer while fleeing ICE agents after a vehicle stop at a gas station near St. Augustine, Florida.
