Joe Scarborough Warns Against U.S. Getting ‘Drunk On Power’

Joe Scarborough issued a warning about the threat of America getting “drunk on power” as high-level Republicans seem increasingly intent on using military force against another foreign power.

During Monday’s episode of “Morning Joe,” the MS NOW host called the Trump administration’s plan to follow attacks on Venezuela and Iran with a mission to take Cuba a “recipe for disaster.” He also reminded viewers how history had proven that that kind of military intervention “never ends well” for the U.S.

Scarborough scoffed at the idea that it was America’s responsibility “to export democracy to all four corners of the globe.”

″‘We’re on the march, we’re going across the world.’ No! No, that didn’t work for George W. Bush, it’s not going to work for this president,” he said. “And this sort of American adventurism, this sort of jingoism, where you’re saying, ‘let’s invade Venezuela, let’s invade Cuba, let’s invade Iran, let’s march through the world and invade all the bad guys,’ time and time again it has proven to be a trap.”

Scarborough also noted that America is strong when America is restrained.

“There are times we have to send our troops to war, I completely understand that,” he said. “But this sort of drunk on power, this sort of drunk on militarism always leads to disaster.”

Scarborough’s stern warning comes just days after President Donald Trump vowed to “take care of Cuba” while meeting with a coalition of Latin American leaders at his golf club in Doral, Fla., on Saturday.

Trump claimed the socialist-led Caribbean island had “no money,” “no oil,” “a bad philosophy,” and a “bad regime.”

“Cuba’s in its last moments of life, as it was,” Trump said. “It’ll have a great new life, but it’s in its last moments of life the way it is.”
