The top official overseeing the Department of Homeland Security’s data and statistics publicly ripped the Trump administration’s war on immigrants, facts and the federal government while announcing his resignation over the weekend.

Marc Rosenblum, who served as executive director of the Office of Homeland Security Statistics, wrote in a LinkedIn post on Sunday that it “will come as no surprise” that he’s “thrilled to end my relationship with the current administration.”

“Between the war on immigrants, the war on feds, and the war on facts (not to mention the crazy war in Iran and the brazen corruption), I just need a change,” his post read.

“I’m also thrilled that my next role will allow me to continue working on immigration data and immigration policy, with goals that actually align with my values and those of most other Americans,” he continued, without sharing what that role will be.

A DHS spokesperson told HuffPost: “People are always welcome to their opinion ― that doesn’t make it right or factual. We will not comment on personal decisions.”

Rosenblum spent more than 10 years with DHS in the first Trump administration and under former President Joe Biden. He also served as a member of then-incoming President Barack Obama’s Immigration Policy Transition Team in 2009, according to the Migration Policy Institute, where he previously served as deputy director.

His work and public service were recently recognized by the nonprofit and nonpartisan organization The Data Foundation with an award that spotlights federal workers who “transform data into strategic policies and deliver impactful results,” according to its website.

“Marc was exactly what every American should want in a career public servant,” Luis Miranda, a top DHS spokesman during the Biden years, told Wired.

“The Trump administration has governed by silencing or ignoring facts and information they believe doesn’t line up with their extreme rhetoric, and that has damaging implications, so it’s no surprise career officials whose job is transparency are unable to do those jobs,” Miranda went on.

In a 2015 written testimony presented to a Senate committee and reviewed by Wired, Rosenblum reportedly warned that a policy of mass deportations could have harmful effects on the economy and established families and communities, including those not directly affected by detention or deportation.

“The deportation dilemma is that more humane enforcement is fundamentally in tension with stricter immigration control,” he reportedly said. “A robust enforcement system inevitably inflicts damage on established families and communities.”
