Donald Trump’s message to the victims of the deadly flash floods in Texas drew sharp criticism from conservative attorney and longtime critic George Conway, particularly over one suggestion from the president.
In a Fox News interview that aired this weekend, Trump was asked by his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, a host on the network, what he’d say to those who’d been affected by the devastating floods.
“There can be nothing worse, losing a child, to start off with — and the way this happened,” Trump began, before pivoting to talk of the warning system, which is now coming under increasing scrutiny, saying: “There was very early warning. They warned a day before, they warned even two days before, they warned four hours before.”
Then came the eyebrow-raising comment:
“Maybe they should have had bells, something, go off,” Trump said. “But it’s pretty dangerous territory when you think of all the times that they’ve had this problem.”
Conway responded on X, the Elon Musk-owned platform formerly called Twitter: “More evidence we have a ding-a-ling president.”
The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines “ding-a-ling” with synonyms such as fool, lunatic, idiot, moron, nut and maniac.

It’s not the first time Conway has taken aim at Trump recently.
Just last week, he mocked the president’s apparent recent realization of being played by Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, calling it just one of “hundreds, if not thousands,” of reasons to believe Trump is a fool.
