Darrell Issa: Paul Pelosi To Blame For 2022 Hammer Attack

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) nodded to sick conspiracy theories about Paul Pelosi during a new interview, blaming the husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) for a deranged MAGA supporter who broke into their home and beat him with a hammer in 2022.

Issa wanted to speculate about everything but the facts while talking to conservative podcaster Benny Johnson about Pelosi’s hit-and-run car crash in Northern California earlier this month.

The political spouse was charged with misdemeanor hit-and-run last Friday after allegedly striking an unoccupied, parked vehicle in Napa Valley’s posh Yountville enclave July 3.

Asked for his take, Issa immediately dropped a loaded reference to “Bohemian Grove,” the meeting place of the secretive, men-only Bohemian Club that conspiracy theorists have long believed to be a shadowy cabal that secretly masterminds global affairs.

Issa suggested Pelosi, a member of the ritzy fraternity, would be able to be “as drunk as could be” if he were at the Grove, gliding past the fact that the Bay Area businessman was found to have no alcohol in his system after the accident. Pelosi does have a record of driving under the influence, however, serving five days in jail in 2022 for a misdemeanor DUI.

Outgoing Congressman Issa went on to label Pelosi as someone with “serious problems,” calling the October 2022 attack a “very dubious circumstance where he let somebody in” to the couple’s San Francisco home “and ended up with his head knocked.”

Pelosi was left with a life-threatening skull fracture after being tied up and beaten with a hammer by home invader David DePape. DePape’s intended victim was the speaker, whom he planned to hold hostage and interrogate about a melange of far-right conspiracies, including QAnon, Pizzagate and President Donald Trump’s widely debunked stolen election claims.

Following the attack, Trump and other right-wing figures began spuriously claiming the incident was a “false flag” concocted by the Democrats to who knows what ends.

In May 2024, DePape received 30 years in prison after being found guilty on two federal charges. That October, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in a separate state trial.
