Melania Trump found herself on the receiving end of mockery and criticism on Wednesday after sharing a platitude about peace while her husband, President Donald Trump, ramps up U.S. attacks on Iran.
The first lady posted on X, formerly Twitter, a line from a speech she delivered at a United Nations Security Council meeting she presided over on Monday.
It read: “Enduring peace will be achieved when knowledge and understanding are fully valued within all societies.”
Critics on social media suggested FLOTUS should tell her husband the same thing.
The reported death toll from the conflict, which has escalated across the Middle East following Iranian retaliation to U.S.-Israeli strikes, now stands at around 900. Six U.S. service members have been killed, and the president has admitted “there will likely be more” casualties because “that’s the way it is.”
