Venezuela earthquakes: ‘Next few hours will be critical’ for rescuers

Rescuers in Venezuela are facing a battle against time as the window of opportunity to find people alive closes.

Around 2,000 search and rescue officials have headed into Venezuela from countries across the world including the UK, Mexico, Costa Rica, France and Spain.

But getting people to the right area with the right equipment is a complex task, says the BBC’s Dan Johnson reporting from the Colombian town of Cucuta, near the border with Venezuela.

Venezuela’s acting President Delcy Rodríguez said in an overnight briefing that she still had “faith and hope” survivors would be rescued.
