Watch: What could Trump’s energy ceasefire mean for Ukraine?

US President Trump said in a social media post on Sunday that an energy ceasefire had been reached between Ukraine and Russia that was “effective immediately”.

Ukraine’s President Zelensky responded by saying his country is willing to back an energy ceasefire if Russia does the same, adding it could “become a major step toward ending the war”.

However, Moscow hasn’t confirmed its agreement and Zelensky said Russia hit a Ukrainian power plant in Kharkiv “immediately after” Trump’s post over the weekend.

The BBC’s Ukraine correspondent Dan Johnson reports from Kyiv, where Ukrainians are facing another winter with electricity outages that leave people without heat, light or even water.
