A five-vehicle collision that ruptured a water main brought traffic on Black Rock Main Road to a standstill on Wednesday afternoon, with emergency crews deploying multiple units as the busy corridor became impassable; no serious injuries were reported up to press time.
Station officer Charmaine Sandiford of the Barbados Fire Service said firefighters responded after receiving a report of a collision near the northern end of Carlton Supermarket shortly after midday.
“The Barbados Fire Service would have received a call at 12:21 p.m. to a four-car smash-up by Little Caesars. On arrival, there were actually five vehicles involved,” Sandiford told Barbados TODAY.
The response, led by divisional officer Marlon Small, involved nine firefighters and two water tenders.
“Also at the incident, apart from the car damage, a water main was damaged by one of the cars hitting into the water line,” she added.
The collision caused major disruption to traffic in the area as emergency crews worked to secure the scene and assess the damage.

Despite the extent of the crash and the damage to the vehicles, no serious injuries had been reported up to Press time.
Investigations are ongoing.
