Barbados condemns Israeli strikes on Qatar

The Government of Barbados has condemned the recent Israeli strikes on Qatar, expressing solidarity with the Qatari government and people and reaffirming its commitment to international law and peace in the Middle East.

“Violations of a country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, wherever and whenever they occur, are a breach of international law and the mutually agreed norms that have supported the stability of the international states’ system since the Second World War,” it said in a statement issued on Wednesday.

“Maintaining the integrity of these norms is essential to international peace and security.”

The government also urged the international community, including key stakeholders in the Middle East and the Gulf Cooperation Council, to prioritise an immediate and long-term ceasefire in Gaza, the return of all hostages and prisoners, and a renewed commitment to achieving a two-state solution “that would allow the people of Israel, Palestine and the entire region to live in harmony”.

“Barbados remains committed to global peace and security and to the principles that support their realisation in our time,” the statement added. (PR/BT)
