Leaders and activists of eight political parties, including Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, have gathered at the capital’s Paltan intersection to submit a memorandum to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, pressing a five-point demand that includes holding parliamentary elections through a referendum and adopting proportional representation (PR).
Supporters of Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Andolon Bangladesh, Khelafat Majlis, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, Bangladesh Khelafat Andolan, Bangladesh Nezam-E-Islam Party, Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (JAGPA), and Bangladesh Development Party began assembling at the intersection around 11am on Thursday.
Participants were seen chanting various slogans in support of their demands.
Among the senior leaders present were Jamaat Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Parwar, Islami Andolon Bangladesh Joint Secretary General Gazi Ataur Rahman, and Khelafat Majlis Nayeb-e-Ameer Ahmad Ali Qasemi, along with other central and metropolitan leaders.
Party sources said the eight-party alliance, which has been campaigning for the implementation of the July National Charter, plans to march to the state guest house Jamuna to submit their memorandum to the chief adviser.
