Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson labelled ‘hypocrites’ by royal biographer over their connection to Jeffrey Epstein

Prince Andrew is a “hypocrite” who believes he is above the law, according to historian and author Andrew Lownie, who has written an unauthorised biography on the under siege royal.

Lownie interviewed hundreds of people while researching the book, including the prince’s former wife Sarah Ferguson.

“[He’s a] very self-entitled, arrogant, pompous guy who has never really been given any boundaries in his life, has never actually been disciplined,” Lownie said.

“I mean, even talking to his school friends, they said this was “an accident waiting to happen”.

Lownie says he double-checked statements the prince and Ferguson had made publicly and many turned out to be untrue.

“They’re complete hypocrites as well as liars,” Lownie said.

“I’m glad … they’ve finally been caught out.”

As of now the prince is facing being a royal outcast as his brother King Charles III is contemplating whether to evict him from his long-time home on Windsor Castle’s sprawling grounds, due to fresh allegations made in Virginia Roberts Giuffre’s book Nobody’s Girl.

Some British MPs are pushing to strip Prince Andrew of his titles and holding an unprecedented debate about his conduct in the House of Commons.

‘Detailed testimony’

Roberts Giuffre has always maintained this photo was taken the night she alleges was forced to have sex with Prince Andrew when she was 17.

He was 41 at the time.

The prince strenuously denies the allegations and says he has never met Roberts Giuffre, despite settling a civil lawsuit and reaching an undisclosed settlement with her in 2022.

In her memoir Nobody’s Girl — which was released last week — she described two other times she was allegedly forced to have sex with Prince Andrew, including an orgy on a private island owned by Jeffrey Epstein.

She said she felt Prince Andrew was entitled and acted like it was his “birthright” to have sex with her.

Lownie believes that is is an accurate description of the royal’s attitude.

“That’s why my book’s called Entitled,” he told 7.30.

“He believes in the divine right of kings. He believes that he’s above the law. He can do exactly what he wants and he’ll be protected, and that has been the case up till now.”

Lownie described Roberts Giuffre’s memoir as a “detailed testimony about him”.

“I think the poignancy of this woman who was driven to suicide by the way she was exploited by people like Prince Andrew, I think should give us pause for thought.”

The contradictions of the House of York

In Prince Andrew’s 2019 interview on BBC’s Newsnight he declared to journalist Emily Maitlis that he had ended his friendship with Epstein in December 2010.

“That was it,” he proclaimed.

But doubt has been cast on this claim after an email from February 2011 was recently published in The Mail on Sunday and The Sun on Sunday earlier this month.

Prince Andrew is alleged to have emailed Epstein saying “we are in this together” and “we’ll play some more soon!!!”

“This contradicts totally what he was saying in public,” Lownie said.

Following the revelation Prince Andrew gave up his royal titles and honours.

He said he made the decision to do so after discussing the matter with his brother King Charles III.

The prince said “the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family”.

“As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me.”

He will no longer be called the Duke of York but will retain the title of Prince Andrew.

Roberts Giuffre’s younger brother Sky told 7.30 that while the removal of titles did not feel like “justice right now” it was “vindication, this is accountability”.

“I just can hear her in this moment and be like, ‘You see, I was telling you this whole entire time, and I am a truth teller,'” Mr Roberts said.

“In a lot of ways she’s still speaking through that book. She’s still speaking her words and fighting for that justice through her own words, even though she’s not with us.”

Lanette Wilson, who is married to Roberts Giuffre’s older brother Danny Wilson, said this move was “a baby step”.

“It’s so important to expose that because what was happening was atrocious and they’ve gotten away with it for so long. I think with Prince Andrew, it’s a step in the right direction.”

In his book Lownie claimed that Sarah Ferguson was also still associating with Epstein after she publicly claimed she was not.

“She claimed to have cut contact at the beginning of 2011 or maybe sooner. She publicly disowned him, said, ‘I have nothing to do with paedophiles. I write children’s books. I support children’s charities’,” Lownie wrote.

“I’ve shown that she was actually staying at Epstein properties as late as 2014.”

Multiple British charities cut ties with Ferguson after it emerged she had described Epstein as a “steadfast, generous and supreme friend” in a 2011 letter.

7.30 sought comment from Buckingham Palace on the comments about both Prince Andrew and Ferguson.

The Palace said: “any allegations about the prince should be put to directly”.

Police investigation

Last week another damning email emerged which allegedly showed Prince Andrew claiming to have provided Roberts Giuffre’s social security number and date of birth to his protection officer in 2011.

Prince Andrew allegedly wanted the officer to dig up dirt to use against her.

There is no evidence the officer followed through.

“This is a criminal offence in Britain under data protection, but also malfeasance in a public office,” Lownie told 7.30.

“I think if he’s convicted he should go to prison.”

Metropolitan Police in London have confirmed to 7.30 it is actively looking into the claims.

Amanda Roberts is married to Roberts Giuffre’s brother Sky.

She says if the allegation against Prince Andrew is true it reveals an “abuse of power”.

“Why would you do that if you’re not guilty of a crime? That right there alone warrants investigating,” Ms Roberts said.

“I think the name ‘prince’ should be stripped from him.”
