Massachusetts Chamber Music Artists opens its second season concert with “Crossroads,” a program that explores the places where cultures, traditions and musical voices intersect.
The evening opens with Armenian composer Gayane Chebotaryan’s expressive Piano Trio, a work that blends rich lyricism with the distinctive colors and rhythms of Armenia’s musical landscape. It is followed by Astor Piazzolla’s electrifying “The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires,” a work that reimagines the spirit of tango through the lens of the concert hall. The program concludes with Johannes Brahms’ monumental Piano Trio No. 1, a masterpiece whose sweeping melodies and emotional depth have made it one of the cornerstones of the chamber music repertoire.
Founder and artistic director of MCMA, violinist Haig Hovsepian is joined by acclaimed musicians Ismael Guerrero, cello, and Matias Cuevas, piano, bringing together three distinguished artists for a program of remarkable range and intensity.
From Armenia to Argentina to Germany, “Crossroads” traces unexpected connections across continents and generations, revealing how music transcends borders while giving voice to the unique stories and traditions that shape our world.
The event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, at 7 p.m. at the Follen Church, 755 Massachusetts Ave., Lexington, Massachusetts, that has been much praised by previous audiences for its acoustical qualities. Earlier this year, Massachusetts Chamber Music Artists concluded its inaugural season with “Mosaics of Armenia,” a program devoted entirely to Armenian music, held May 17 at Follen Church in Lexington, Massachusetts. The concert featured founder and artistic director Haig Hovsepian, violin; Suren Bagratuni, cello; and Karen Hakobyan, piano.
