The Government of Antigua and Barbuda has published the official list of public holidays for 2026, while also announcing a series of public consultations on proposed legislation aimed at addressing workplace violence and harassment.

In a notice issued by the Office of the Labour Commissioner, the public was advised that the recognised public holidays for 2026 are set out in accordance with the Public Holidays (Amendment) Act 2005.

The holidays include New Year’s Day on 1 January, Good Friday on 3 April, Easter Monday on 6 April, and Labour Day on 4 May, which falls on the first Monday of the month. Whit Monday will be observed on 25 May.

Carnival Monday and Tuesday are scheduled for 3 and 4 August respectively, followed by the National Day of Prayer on 17 September. Independence Day will be marked on 1 November, but will be officially observed on Monday, 2 November.

V.C. Bird Day will be observed on 9 December, with Christmas Day and Boxing Day falling on 25 and 26 December.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Legal Affairs, Public Safety, Immigration and Labour has announced the launch of public consultations on the proposed Workplace Violence and Harassment (Prevention) Draft Bill.

According to the Labour Department, the draft legislation was developed in line with international labour conventions and is intended to establish a legal framework to help create safer, more respectful and violence-free workplaces.

The ministry said the consultations are designed to ensure the legislation reflects the experiences and concerns of workers and employers, as well as unions, professional bodies, community organisations and members of the public.

A series of consultation meetings has been scheduled across the country. These include sessions at the Multipurpose Centre on 28 January, Villa Community Centre on 5 February, J.T. Ambrose Primary School on 11 February, and Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on 18 February. All meetings are set to begin at 5:30pm.

The draft bill is available on the government’s website, with additional information accessible through the Labour Department.

Officials have encouraged members of the public to participate in the consultations and to take note of the 2026 public holiday schedule as published.
