GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — She wrestles, beats champs and wins titles. At only nine years old, Kamora Manhart is hoping she will be named Youth Athlete of the Year.
She wrestles, does jiu-jitsu and plays football at Coopersville.
“I like to have fun … and I also like great sportsmanship,” Manhart said.
She won the MYWAY Girls State Championship and placed in the boys’ division in the same day, making history as her school’s first female state champ — something she says is one of her greatest accomplishments.
Her dad and supporter Jared Manhart said her courage is what makes her the perfect candidate for Youth Athlete of the Year.
“She just tackles anything that comes her way. She’s not afraid, she stands tall at everything she does and she’s breaking barriers. I mean, she’s already made history at Coopersville for being the first female to win a state wrestling championship,” Jared Manhart said.
Kamora Manhart said if she wins, she’d be “the happiest girl in the world.”
“If I win the $25 grand, I would probably buy my best friend … a new bike, and spend some on shopping and probably put some in my college account,” she said.
Jared Manhart said she would also get a photoshoot to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
