The 77th Republic Day was celebrated with gaiety and patriotic fervour at the district sports ground in Thoothukudi on Monday. District Collector K. Elambahavath unfurled the national flag and received the guard of honour along with the District Superintendent of Police N. Silambarasan.
As part of the celebration, cultural programmes were performed by the students from various parts of the district. A total of 615 students participated in the programmes. The collector also felicitated the heirs of freedom fighters and honoured the officials from the police department with chief minister medal for the year 2026. A total of 440 government staff, including police and other departments, were felicitated with certificates of excellence.
Mr. Elambahavath also distributed welfare assistance worth ₹2.13 lakh to 38 beneficiaries, through various departments including Backward and Minorities Welfare Department, Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department and others.

District Revenue Officer A. Ravichandran, Thoothukudi Corporation Commissioner S. Priyanka and other officials were present.
Kanniyakumari District Collector R. Alagumeena hoisted the national flag at the Republic Day celebration organised at Anna Stadium in Nagercoil in presence of Kanniyakumari District Superintendent of Police R. Stalin and received the guard of honour by the police department.
At the event, the collector honoured 92 police personnel with chief minister medals and 124 police personnel with certificates of excellence.
A total of 263 government staff from various departments were also felicitated with certificates of excellence at the event. 20 teachers of Government Adi Dravidar Welfare schools were awarded with certificates of appreciation for achieving 95% results in 2024-2025 board examinations of class X and XII.
Tamil Nadu Food Commission Chairperson N. Suresh Rajan, Kanniyakumari MP Vijay Vasanth, District Forest Officer A. Anbu, District Revenue Officer A. Poongothai, Nagercoil Corporation Commissioner Nishant Krishna and other officials were present.
