A 22-year-old man identified as Mohamed Sajith from New Delhi was arrested and remanded in judicial custody on charges of possessing ganja chocolates and selling it to young people in the locality on Saturday.
Following complaints, Dindigul SP S. Jeyakumar directed the Kallimandayam police to register a case.
Preliminary inquiries by Oddanchatram sub-division DSP Karthikeyan suggested that Sajith was working as a tailor in a spinning mill in the locality. He was getting courier packets regularly, which he claimed to be herbal tablets.
Discreet probe however, revealed that they were ganja chocolates. Based on the confession, the police seized 2.7 kilograms of ganja chocolates allegedly from his possession.
Kallimandayam police produced him before a Judicial Magistrate court, which remanded him in judicial custody.
The SP appealed to the public to write to the police on ‘Drug Free Tami Nadu’ website and assured prompt action against such suspects. He also warned of stern action against people who neglected the laws and said that they have to face the legal consequences, which include not only seizure of the properties, but also attachment of their bank accounts and immovable properties.
