Our country received today, Wednesday, from the General Secretariat of the Khalifa International Date Palm Award and Agricultural Innovation in cooperation with the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Nouakchott, one thousand date palm seedlings of the ‘Majaul’ variety in support of date palm farmers in Mauritania.Mr. Ahmed Salem Ould Al-Arabi, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, received this quantity from His Excellency the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to our country, Mr. Hamad Ghanem Al-Mehri, along with the Secretary-General of the Khalifa International Date Palm Award and Agricultural Innovation, Mr. Abdul Wahab Zayed.The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty confirmed in a speech on the occasion that this gift reflects the distinguished relations between our country and the United Arab Emirates under the wise leadership of the leaders of the two brotherly countries.
He added that this assistance comes just a few days before organizing the fourth edition of the International Date Festival in the city of Kifa, praising the importance of these festivals in gaining experiences, knowledge, and benefiting from the rich experience of the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation in the field of date palm cultivation.He pointed out that the cooperation between the agriculture sector, food sovereignty, and the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation in developing and enhancing date palm cultivation reflects the interest of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, in the agricultural sector, which has made great strides in agricultural development to achieve self-sufficiency, as the sector has made a qualitative leap in increasing production, productivity, and expanding reclaimed areas.
The Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Mauritania, His Excellency Mr. Hamad Ghanem Al Muhairi, praised in a speech earlier the level of cooperation between the two brotherly countries, pointing out that the Khalifa International Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation Award has achieved satisfactory results through its interventions at the level of Arab countries.He added that this gift embodies the continuation of a genuine Emirati approach established by the late founding leader Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul, and is being followed by the wise leadership of the United Arab Emirates in providing support to Arab brothers, enhancing food security, and advancing the sustainable agricultural sector.
The Secretary-General of the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation emphasized that the General Secretariat of the award, under the framework of the Zayed Human Heritage Foundation at the Presidential Court, is keen to make this qualitative initiative part of a series of developmental initiatives that focus on empowering farmers and providing varieties of date palms with high productivity and quality, based on advanced scientific and technical foundations.He pointed out that date palm cultivation is not only a productive sector but also represents a cultural, civilizational, and economic artery, and a fundamental pillar for achieving food security and community stability, especially in rural and desert areas.The ceremony for receiving this gift was attended by the Director of Agricultural Development, Mr. Bab Ahmed Ould Nagrah, the Coordinator of the Oasis Development and Growth Program, Mr. Mohamed Ould Mohamed Laghdaf, and the Coordinator of the Communication Cell at the ministry, Mr. Al-Qatib Ould Balil.
