MINOT, ND (KXNET) — An archery club in Minot is dealing with serious financial concerns — and the names involved are already familiar to many in the community.
According to board meeting minutes obtained by KX News, at least $160,000 from the Souris Valley Bowmen Club’s bank account was unaccounted for, and during a board meeting last week, former President Dallas Rice admitted to taking the money.
Rice, who served as president of the club, is also the husband of Nichole Rice. Nichole was charged in 2022 with the 2007 stabbing death of her then-roommate, Anita Knutson. However, she was found not guilty by a jury in Grand Forks in March and was acquitted.
KX News has obtained the July 14 board meeting minutes and notes from a club member, which show Dallas was questioned about the missing funds. According to those board meeting records, at least $160,000 went missing from the Souris Valley Bowmen Club’s bank accounts, and Dallas admitted to taking the funds for personal use.
The issue reportedly came to light after a club check bounced at Scheels. The records indicate, club funds were used for fireworks, television subscriptions, and a charge at Big O Tires, among other expenses.
Dallas stated that his wife, Nichole — who served as the club’s Secretary/Treasurer — had no knowledge of, or involvement in, the financial activity. The records note that the missing funds date back to 2023. Dallas had been serving as president since 2020.

The notes also state that Nichole told the board she wasn’t an authorized user of any of the bank accounts; however, she said she was signing checks and using the club debit card for club expenses.
During the July 14 meeting, Dallas was removed from his role as president. Nichole initially took a leave of absence from her position as Secretary/Treasurer, but was later voted out by the board.
The board notes also show that Dallas told board members he would pay the money back by Friday, the 18th. It’s unclear if that has happened.
Under North Dakota Century Code §12.1-23-07, embezzling more than $50,000 qualifies as a Class A felony — a charge that carries a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
Ward County civil court records indicate two active debt collection cases filed against Dallas.
In one case, First National Bank of Omaha is listed as the plaintiff, seeking $17,260.68 from Dallas. In the other, Capital One is the plaintiff in a separate active collection totaling $4,157.99.
At this time, no charges have been filed against Dallas or Nichole. The Club’s board members have not returned our phone calls so far.
